The Highlight of My Day: October 2015
Something good happens every day. Here's what happened in October 2015:
Thu 10/1/15 to Fri 10/2/15: I did not write. :(
Sat 10/3/15: We watched the first two sessions of General Conference today, as well as the Priesthood session. Brad was a little bummed that he missed out on watching the Priesthood Session with his father, Bruce's family, as well as Scott, who had to work tonight, so I watched it with him on our TV. I finished making the BB-8 hat during the session. It's so super cute!
Sun 10/4/15: Today is David's 4th Birthday! I stayed up late last night, blowing up balloons for David, and putting up a Spider-Man poster in the living room. I was very pleased to see David's reaction this morning. He was very excited to see all the Spider-Man decorations. He spent the first half of General Conference playing with his balloons, then we had a small family party with Grandma and Grandpa Whitcomb in between conference sessions. David loved eating his Spider-Man cake and opening up his Spider-Man gift bag. Inside David found a new Spider-Man Halloween costume, as well as a new Spider-Man shirt and cup. I took photos of him dressed up in his new costume, playing outside with Lizzy.
Mon 10/5/15: I volunteered to chaperon Lizzy's field trip to Petersen Family Farm today. I was in charge of Lizzy's group of four: Lizzy, Nora, JinJin, and Alex. It was a blast going to the farm with Lizzy's class. The kids enjoyed walking through the corn maze, playing on the large pyramid slide, going on the tractor/wagon ride, seeing the farm animals, picking out their pumpkins, and playing in the corn pit.
Tue 10/6/15: We harvested Lizzy's pumpkins today. She had four that were ready for picking. She took one to school to show her teacher, Miss Annie. David is obsessed with his Spider-Man costume. He wears it all the time, even when he goes to sleep at night.
Wed 10/7/15: Rosie came today! Tricky dropped her off this afternoon. She is going to be staying with us for a whole month while Tricky is in Costa Rica, visiting his new girlfriend, Carolina. Rosie adjusted very quickly to our house this time. It did not take long for her to feel right at home.
Thu 10/8/15: Today was David's field trip to the fire-station with his preschool class. Little Nolan Moon came with us, since I was babysitting him today. Both boys had a blast looking at the firetruck and spending time with the rest of David's class. Brad and I did initiatories at the Jordan River Temple this evening. Grandma and Grandpa watched Lizzy and David for us. I love going to the temple with my husband.
Fri 10/9/15: I went on a walk around the block with Lizzy, David, and Rosie this afternoon. It was Lizzy's idea. She rode on her scooter while David and I walked Rosie. Scott found us on our way home and carried David the rest of the way on his shoulders. I drove him to work tonight.
Sat 10/10/15: I did not write. ;(
Sun 10/11/15: We took a little trip to Silver Lake today. It was a short trip, because we weren't prepared to stay for very long. It was chilly up there. But it was a nice drive up the canyon. We put in the new DVD of "When Marnie Was There" while we were driving in the van. I loved listening to it. It's such a beautiful movie.
Mon 10/12/15: I finished my Stormtrooper hat while watching shows on the internet. It turned out far better than the first one I tried to make. I think my Star Wars collection is complete!
Tue 10/13/15: I took photos of my Star Wars hats and put them on Facebook today. My photo received a lot of online traffic, and I already have a few orders. All proceeds will go directly into Scott's missionary fund. I am so happy Scott is preparing to go on a mission.
Wed 10/14/15: I had a houseful of children today. Nolan and Valeen went with me to pick up Lizzy and David early from school. They all enjoyed spending time together. Lizzy is looking forward to Fall Break this weekend. Four days of no school ahead!
Thu 10/15/15: Today was "getting-chores-done" day. Brad stayed home from work and worked on his car. He finished it a lot sooner than I expected. So far the check-engine light has not come back on. We are crossing our fingers it's fixed!
Fri 10/16/15: I bought art supplies from Michaels for the Relief Society Paint Night. I began painting some cute button tree samples, just so I can know what I will be teaching next Tuesday. I made a pretty autumn-themed tree. I love how the orange and yellow buttons "pop" against the royal blue background I chose. I also started making a cherry-blossom tree, with pink buttons.
Sat 10/17/15: We made it to the pumpkin patch this morning! We went to Pumpkin Point Farms again this year, like we've done the last two years. We bought 7 pumpkins for $14. My favorite part was taking photographs of my family.
Sun 10/18/15: Brad was released as the 1st counselor in the Elders Quorum Presidency, and then set apart again as the 1st counselor in the new presidency. He is happy to be working with Danny Timmerman. We went to Grandpa North's house in the evening for dinner. I made my BBQ chicken drumstick dinner with rice and green beans. It has definitely become a family favorite for us.
Mon 10/19/15: I took the kids to Brad's work to get flu shots today. David was so brave, he didn't even flinch when the nurse gave him a shot. Lizzy was so terrified, but she ended up being brave as well. Afterward, she told me she was surprised at how the shot didn't really hurt much at all. My highlight of the day was reviewing Lizzy's homework tonight. She got 100% on the first half of her math test. I was so happy and impressed with her that I began to tear up. She is definitely beginning to bloom academically in school. She makes my mama-heart proud.
Tue 10/20/15: Painting class tonight turned out to be a big hit. We had a lot of sisters show up. I liked watching how everyone came up with their own ideas and interpretations of their paintings. Not one painting was alike, as they were all unique in their own way.
Wed 10/21/15: My highlight of the day was listening to Heidi Winder speak at Emma's YW in Excellence night. She gave an amazing talk on finding light during dark times. She told us the story of how she was caught in a terrible typhoon while she was serving her mission in the Philippians, and how she learned to cope and used her faith to strengthen her.
Thu 10/22/15: I did not write. :(
Fri 10/23/15: Brad got off of work early today, so we thought it might be a fun opportunity to take the kids to the park for a little bit. We brought Rosie with us. By the time we were finished, it was dinner time, and I was starving. I convinced Brad to take us to Taco Bell, to grab some tacos and bring them home.
Sat 10/24/15: Tonight was our neighborhood trunk-or-treat and chili cook-off. I bought Lizzy an Anna dress yesterday, and she looked so cute wearing it tonight. David, of course, was Spider Man. I dressed up as Olaf, using one of the crochet hats I made last year. Brad was Totoro again. The food and company was wonderful, as usual. My homemade chili received a lot of attention and was one of the first to go. The kids enjoyed playing with Valeen and Jacob, and they loved Sister Western making them balloons. Lizzy picked her usual creepy black snake with red eyes. David picked the ghost balloon, which I thought was very clever and extremely cute.
Sun 10/25/15: I did not write. :(
Mon 10/26/15: I took Lizzy and David to Gardner Village, to see the witches on display. Time was running out to see them, and I wanted to make sure they had a chance before Halloween comes this weekend. They loved finding all the different witches around the village. I think their favorite one was the witch on the river raft, throwing sticks of dynamite. David, of course, was thrilled with all the Halloween decorations. David loves Halloween so much.
Tue 10/27/15: I went with David's class to a field trip to Petersen Family Farm-- the same place Lizzy went on her field trip earlier this month. I am glad David got to go, too, because I knew he would like it there. The giant pyramid slide was his favorite part. He also liked riding in the wagon, and seeing the baby pigs and goats. We stopped at the farm's market before leaving and bought some delicious home-grown apples, and two bottles of homemade root beer and sarsaparilla.
Wed 10/28/15: I did not write. :(
Thu 10/29/15: David's Halloween school parade
Fri 10/30/15: Halloween party at Brad's work.
Sat 10/31/15: I did not write. :(
